Your 2027 Italy Honeymoon: Where to Go, Season by Season

Here’s a little secret from someone who lived in Italy for six years: there is no wrong time for an Italy honeymoon. People love to argue about the “best” month to go. We think the best month is the one right after your wedding.

Italy simply changes outfits with the seasons, and every single one of them looks good on newlyweds. So whether you’re saying “I do” in May, September or on New Year’s Eve, here’s where we’d send you for your 2027 Italy honeymoon.

Spring honeymoons in Italy (March to May)

Italy in spring is basically a romantic comedy montage. Wisteria spilling over stone walls, poppies popping up all over Tuscany and your first gelato of the season on a sunny piazza.

  • Lake Como wakes up in late March, when the grand villas and gardens reopen and the azaleas go a little wild. Take a boat to Bellagio, linger over lunch on the water and pretend you’re in a perfume ad.

  • Tuscany is green, fresh and blissfully uncrowded before summer. Settle into a villa, do a Chianti tasting and take a cooking class together. (Bonus: now one of you can make pasta.)

  • Rome and Florence are gorgeous in spring. Heads up: Easter falls on March 28, 2027, and April 25 and May 1 are holidays too. Italians love a long weekend, so we plan around those dates or get you ahead of the crowds.

Summer honeymoons in Italy (June to August)

Summer is for the sea, long golden evenings and dinners that don’t start until 9 pm.

  • Sardinia has water so clear it looks photoshopped (it isn’t). Think beach days, boat trips to hidden coves and seafood you’ll still be talking about on your first anniversary.

  • Portofino and the Italian Riviera are pure old-school glamour: pastel harbors, prosecco at sunset and a little window shopping.

  • The Dolomites are the secret summer honeymoon. While everyone else is sweating, you’re hiking between mountain huts, eating strudel with a view and watching the peaks turn pink at sunset.

Our tip: August is when Italians take their own vacations, with the big Ferragosto holiday on August 15, so the coast gets busy. Book early and we’ll find you the quieter corners.

Fall honeymoons in Italy (September to November)

Fall is harvest season, and it’s delicious.

  • Tuscany in September and October means grape harvest, fresh olive oil and wine tastings where the winemaker pours for you personally.

  • Piedmont is for serious food lovers: Barolo, Barbaresco and white truffle season. The famous Alba White Truffle Fair usually runs from early October into December.

  • The lakes and the coast stay warm into early fall, and the summer crowds head home. Most Lake Como hotels stay open until early November.

Winter honeymoons in Italy (December to February)

Winter honeymooners, we see you. And we have plans for you.

  • The Dolomites turn into a snow globe. Ski or snowshoe by day, then soak in the spa and cozy up by the fire.

  • Rome, Florence and Venice are dreamy with fewer tourists: twinkling lights, cozy trattorias, hot chocolate so thick your spoon stands up, and museums you can actually see. Venice’s Carnival season lands in February, masks and all.

  • Tuscany in winter is slow and romantic, with fireplaces, hearty soups and a good bottle of Brunello.

Just note that many lakeside hotels and beach towns close for the winter, so we’ll steer you to the places where Italy is still wide awake.

Can’t pick one season? Mix and match

Most of our couples combine two or three regions, like a few slow days in the Tuscan countryside followed by the lake or the coast. Ten to fourteen days is the sweet spot. Whatever month you go, we build your trip around the season, not against it.
